Balmain is one of the oldest and most noted fashion labels in fashion history. It is known for its lavish couture and loved by the stars. It boasts the input of several of the world’s most popular designers.
The Fashion Label
Balmain was first founded by the French courtier Pierre Balmain in 1945. Pierre Balmain, along with Christian Dior and Cristóbal Balenciaga, was responsible for recreating the world of lavish couture after World War II. Balmain was known for its extremely feminine style and was a favorite among all of Europe’s royalty as well as Hollywood celebrities. Some of Balmain’s clients included famous Hollywood fashion icons like Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich, and Katherine Hepburn.
Since its start, Balmain has had designers like Oscar de la Renta and Laurent Mercier join the house. Christophe Decarnin, who worked for a decade at Paco Rabanne, is also one of the latest designers to join the house. Since Decarnin’s involvement, Balmain’s style has taken on a more chic, sexy, French party-girl style than its former ultra-elegant evening attire style. Balmain is now known for its thigh-grazing dresses and body-skimming, ultra-sexy looks.
Balmain is now owned by Alvin Hivelin and is based in Paris, France. It has also added Oliver Rousteing to its commended team of designers. With such a diverse and excellent team, it’s no wonder that Balmain remains an established line and a critics’ favorite. It still boasts the following of some of the hottest fashion icons, such as Kate Winslet, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carine Roitfield, and Audrey Tautao.
Balmain has added expansions to its line as well to include a shoe line involving Giuseppe Zanotti as well its first men’s collection. With Balmain’s rich fashion history and ever-fashionable trends, we can’t wait to see its latest collections. It is truly a fashion lover’s delight.
