Few designers are able to create Haute couture looks that dazzle on the runway but also capture the attention of stylish women with a high-end ready-to-wear collection. A Frenchman by the name of Hubert de Givenchy established a clothing brand that has become synonymous with chic and daring fashion. 
 
Givenchy is known for its diverse collection of luxury clothing, including its daring collections of modern blazers, skirts, harem pants and dresses. The label also features unconventional shirts, blazers, handbags, scarfs, fragrances, cosmetics, dress shoes, heels and sneakers. Creative director Riccardo Tisci and his team of experienced designers are continuing the tradition started by Hubert de Givenchy of creating styles for ladies who want clothing that is cutting edge and elegant. Since the label's start in the 1950s, the most stylish of women from around the world have donned the Givenchy label, including Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis, Princess Grace of Monaco, Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor and Greta Garbo. More recently, stars such as Jay-Z and Kanye West have worn the label. 
 
The man behind the label, Hubert de Givenchy was born in 1927 in Beauvais, France. He started out in the fashion industry in the 1940s as an assistant to Jacques Fath and went on to work with major names in the Paris fashion industry, including Robert Piguet, Lucien Leong, Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior. When he was ready to venture out on his own in 1952, Givenchy opened the House of Givenchy, a fashion house dedicated to elegance and fashion forwardness. Givenchy immediately took off when the top model in France at the time, Bettina Graziani, wore his fashions. 
 
Givenchy established himself in the fashion industry by designing luxury clothing, including separates and ready to wear clothing. The designer stood out because of his light skirts and puffy blouses, which women in Paris, New York and cities around the world wanted. The Givenchy label was originally meant for chic women, but that changed when Piergiorgio Dutto became the men's clothing designer for Givenchy. Although Givenchy became part of the Moet Hennessy-Louis Vuitton empire in 1988, the label retained its name and its dedication to well-made and daring designs for women and men.
