Looking for an outfit that your friends won't be able to stop raving about? Then look no further than Roberto Cavalli. Lauded by critics for his avant-garde, flashy designs, a Roberto Cavalli outfit is sure to make you the centre of attention.
While Roberto Cavalli was still a struggling art student at the Academy of Art in Florence, a friend who was starting his own knitwear company approached him about hand painting designs on sweaters. The idea was a big hit and effectively derailed Cavalli’s dream to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and become an architect. After a short stint working for the fashion house of Mario Valentino, he opened his own t-shirt and denim company in 1960.
Favored by celebrities and Hollywood’s elite, Roberto Cavalli is famous for vibrant, exotic prints that add dramatic flair to simple pieces. He has been termed the “king of bling” by some fashion critics because of his choice of vivid, ornate fabrics. Cavalli is also known for the seductive cuts of his pieces which has led to comparisons between him and the late designer Gianni Versace.
Roberto Cavalli is also credited with creating the sandblasted look for jeans which he debuted at a fashion show in Milan in 1994. The look is now a popular design for all blue jean manufacturers. The Cavalli line includes jeans, dresses, skirts, tops, jackets and accessories. He also launched a men’s fashion line called RC and a youth line called Just Cavalli. Cavalli has been quoted as saying that many of his designs have been inspired by things around his home and in 2000 he launched a home line called Cavalli Casa.
